Daily Time Saving Tips for a More Efficient You

When looking for some time saving tips to really boost your efficiency, you can’t go wrong if you keep one very important thing in mind: it doesn’t save time if you sacrifice quality for time.

What does that mean? It means that rushing through to get more stuff done in a day at the risk of doing things wrong is only going to cost you more time and energy later down the road. When you’re an entrepreneur struggling to turn your small business into the booming success you know it has the potential to be, wasting time and energy is akin to wasting money – and no one can afford that!

Saving Time Saves You Money!

Here are just a few time saving tips for a more efficient workplace:

Keep a personal calendar – by keeping track not only of important dates, but important hours of the day as well, you’ll know what needs to be done at a glance, rather than looking around for inspiration to remember everything you needed to accomplish today. And, because of the wonder that is today’s smartphone, your daily calendar can be literally right at your fingertips, available with a tap on your phone’s screen.

Don’t over schedule yourself – the temptation is there to try and fit as many things into your daily calendar as possible, so you can do more later. The problem with this is you may not be leaving any room for emergency situations, or things that crop up that are more important than what you’ve got scheduled. Make sure to keep about a quarter of your day free for these circumstances – you can always fill that space with other needful tasks later, if you find yourself with some free time.

Prioritize your tasks – keeping up with your supply of paperclips is important, but not necessarily as important as making sure your employees are paid on time. Make sure you know what needs to be taken care of first, and what can wait for later. This is not, however, an excuse to procrastinate – you have to get to those paperclips eventually!

Delegate whenever possible – THIS ONE IS HUGE! Don’t ascribe to the theory that if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing yourself. This is a very important time saving tip, because otherwise you could be setting yourself up for a burnout very quickly. If you don’t have the faith in your support staff to handle certain tasks, you shouldn’t be paying them in the first place. Get used to delegating time consuming tasks to others. Check in regularly to monitor progress, but learn to let go!

Socializing with coworkers and clients is good – in moderation. There’s nothing wrong with a friendly chat with a long-time customer, it even fosters goodwill within your client base, makes them feel valued. But, a 20 minute conversation with even only 3 customers each day cuts an hour out of your productivity, so try to keep it friendly, but short.

How Saving Time Saves You Money

When you use your time more productively, you quite simply spend less time and energy getting things accomplished. That means that you and your employees can spend more time making sales, and less time getting routine tasks done – which not only saves you money, it helps you to make more of it! These simple time saving tips don’t guarantee that your day won’t encounter unexpected time crunches, but it sure will cut them down by the droves.
